Online improv meetups

We can stop doing it! We are addicted to improv, so let's do it online! To spend less time with technical problemes, Please read this page carefully before joining our online meetups.

Before the workshop

At least 30 minutes before the meeting, install Zoom on a desktop computer. And check:

  • Do you hear sounds? Are the speakers working?
  • Do you hear yourself? Is the microphone working? If you have problems please watch this video Configuring audio and video with Zoom
  • Can you talk without hearing any echo?
  • Does your camera work? If you have problems please watch this video Configuring audio and video with Zoom
  • Do you know how to mute your microphone?
  • Do you know how to turn off your camera?
  • Where is the chat window?
  • Is your battery fully charged or your laptop is plugged in?
  • Do you have water or any other beverage nearby?

We will use the following gestures:

  • Raise your hand to talk
  • Thumbs ups: Everything is ok!
  • Thumbs down: You didn't like it!
  • Cross arms in front of your chest: Stop what you are doing!
  • Police-officer-stop hand: To pause a scene/exercise
  • Waving hands: Applause! (sign language style)

Other tips:

  • When you aren't playing a scene, please turn off your camera
  • Use your body when you are sitting down, make sure you are sitting upright. Create a focussed body position and you will feel that way!
  • Allow time for lag! Stop at the end of your sentence and be delighted by what your partner says. Be prepare for more silence moments as the sound travels to the other participants

Joining the workshop

Please do it 10 minutes before the meeting and wait until it starts. The moderator will ask you to mute your microphone for 2 seconds and turn the camera for a while as a fast technical check.

Games on Sunday 5th, April

  • Flock Dance: The group randomly follows one player and there is a give and take
  • Press conference The main player puts his fingers in his ears
  • 1,3, 5 words. 3 players can only say 1, 3 or five words per sentence.
  • Pen friends
  • Count until 21
  • Samurai (up, down, middle). Fighting between two players. The first player says the name of the other person
  • Matching emotions with a group of people and an action: There are 3 palyers: the first one names a group of people like Sailors. Everyone starts acting like a sailor. Then the second player names an emotion (“Jealousy”) and the last player names an action (“Watching the neighbouring ship”). All three players match their emotions, actions and at the end they can talk
  • Yes... and in pair
  • 3 lines scenes: in pairs. Player B answers and at the end Player A must finished the scene
    • Player A stars with a sentence like “Is that not a (crappy used car saleman?)”
    • Player A says a lyrics of a famous song
    • The moderator must tell make two online rows be telling every player who they follow
  • Telling a story and linking sentences: Two players say the first and last sentence of a story. Then players say a sentence and tell everyone between what other players this sentence goes. After a couple of rounds the players repeat their sentences until every participant is part of the story.
  • Rolling scenes: The moderators defines the playing order by telling every participant who they follow. Player B starts a scene with player A. After 1-2 minutes, player A has to find an excuse to leave the scene. Then player C starts a scene with player B until he leaves the scene. Then player D comes in…
